HOA SEN

Vào ngày sen nở, chao ôi,

Tâm hồn tôi bỗng bồi hồi lang thang
Tôi đâu có biết rõ ràng
Lẵng hoa trống rỗng, hoa vương chốn nào.

Giờ đây lại thấy buồn sao
Giật mình tỉnh mộng, xiết bao ngỡ ngàng
Thấy mùi hương lạ dịu dàng
Ướp trong làn gió phương Nam thổi về.

Hương thơm thoang thoảng đê mê
Làm lòng tôi chợt tái tê mơ mòng
Tưởng chừng mùa hạ mặn nồng

Thở hơi tha thiết cầu mong vẹn phần.
 
Tôi nào ngờ thấy quá gần                        
Hương ngào ngạt tỏa ngát thầm trong tôi
Hương hoa toàn hảo tuyệt vời
Nở ra trong đáy lòng tôi thơm lừng.

LOTUS

On the day when the lotus bloomed, alas, my mind was straying,
and I knew it not. My basket was empty and the flower remained unheeded.

Only now and again a sadness fell upon me, and I started up from my
dream and felt a sweet trace of a strange fragrance in the south wind.

That vague sweetness made my heart ache with longing and it seemed to
me that is was the eager breath of the summer seeking for its completion.

I knew not then that it was so near, that it was mine, and that this
perfect sweetness had blossomed in the depth of my own heart.
